Review for 2005/6

It's been another very busy and successful year for the players. It began in June 2005 when we returned from the Felixstowe Drama festival with seven awards for our production of Alan Ayckbourn's "Comic Potential.

The 2005/06 season opened in September with another Ayckbourn play "Absent Friends", directed by Phil Sage. Juliet Lake and Bella Kemble made their joint directing debut in November with "Silly Cow" a black comedy written by Ben Elton.

We kicked off the New Year with "A Saint She Ain't" directed by Mike Barlow the play is a send up of Hollywood's MGM style musicals and it brought in our largest audience for two years.

Peter Stickler made his directorial debut and changed the mood when he brought us in March Ira Levin's physchological thriller "Veronica's Room", which went on to win the Best Presentation award in the Glamorgan Drama League peripatetic Glammies Festival.

The hectic pace of the season continued and in March we entered a one act play called "Aunt Attack" written by our own Geoff Lake, in the Glamorgan One Act Festival held at the Dylan Thomas Theatre in Swansea, two or three new members to the players were involved with this and it gave them valuable experience.

The season concluded with "A Fistful of Monday's" by Joe Graham, a comedy about the lives and loves of a weekly line-dance club. Directed by Peter Griffiths this was our entry into the 2006 Llandrindod Wells Drama festival where we won third place and Peter Griffiths also won the Best Actor award for his role in the play.

The Group continues to thrive with a lively membership embracing all ages. New members are always welcome and it is worth noting that each of our five full-length and also our one act productions have included at least one new member. We are looking forward to the 2006-2007 season.
